AL PONTILLO, artist

Al Pontillo began his love for animals at 6 years old when his mother got him his first dog, Barney. As an only child, Barney was truly Al's best friend.

At 12 years old, Al began volunteering at the New Rochelle Humane Society. He volunteered there for 4 years, and was personally responsible for the care, feeding and adoption of hundreds of dogs.

Immediately after graduating  high school, Al enlisted in the US Navy. He graduated from the Navy's Gas Turbine Mechanic School and served aboard the USS DeWert. During his service, he received the Battle Excellence award and the National Defense Medal. Unfortunately Barney, Al's best friend, passed away during his service.

After being Honorably discharged, Al worked as a Nationally Registered Emergency Medical Technician in the state of New York for over a decade. Al was working September 11, 2001 and participated in the rescue and recovery efforts in NYC.

In 2006, Al graduated as a Nationally Registered Radiologic Technologist from The Stamford School of Radiography. In his career he worked in both general radiology & interventional radiology at the Brooklyn's Veteran Hospital. He also worked as a mobile x-ray technician, covering NYC and the 5 boroughs. Before retiring from the medical field, Al worked as an M.R.I. technologist, operating one of the few open M.R.I. machines in the country.

In 2016, Al opened his own painting company, 4A Painting. He has been constantly voted Best Local Painter in North Haven, Ct since 2019. Al happily resides there with Amy his wife of 20 years, his 2 children Albert and Autumn and their terrier mix Arthur.
